Zella Hydro is a Canadian company. We believe in green energy, are passionate about run-of-river projects, and value local development.
Our projects have several unique features. They utilize non-fish bearing reaches of the creek and are small even within the world of run-of-river, i.e. under 4 MW. Further, our projects connect to local power lines in order to avoid the construction of new transmission lines. These features reinforce our commitment to the low footprint development of renewable energy.
The BC Energy Plan (2007) outlines one of the BC government’s goals for new provincial power projects: to have zero net greenhouse gas emissions. In accordance with this goal, Zella Hydro’s projects will help offset some of the coal- and natural gas-based electricity that BC Hydro imports each year. Run-of-river projects will not only help reduce the province’s greenhouse gas emissions, but will also bring BC one step closer to being a net exporter of electricity.
