Introduction:
The Frosst Creek Hydro Project is a proposed 4 MW run-of-river project which will be located 5 km southwest of Cultus Lake near the community of Lindell Beach, BC. It will produce about 14 GWh per year of clean renewable electricity, which will be sold to BC Hydro under the Standing Offer Program (SOP). The proposed project will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions created by imported energy by approximately 3,100 tonnes.
Project Description:
The intake weir will be located on Frosst Creek at an elevation of approximately 640 metres above sea level (MASL). A portion of the flow from Frosst Creek will be diverted into a penstock (24 – 36″ diameter). Diverted flow will travel downhill through the penstock approximately 2.32 km to a powerhouse. Once flows reach the powerhouse, they will travel through a single Pelton turbine at a maximum flow rate of 1.3 m3/s. All water will be returned to Frosst Creek via a tailrace, which will be located just below the powerhouse.
